About the Marathon
How is the event played?
This year, the event can be played either as a traditional 18-hole course marathon or on a special 9-hole putting course.  There is also the opportunity to participate in the 9-hole only putting contest for a great prize.

Are 100 holes of golf possible?

Yes!  It’s been done before and we’ll be doing it again.  Golfing 100 holes on the course at Piedmont will take approximately 8 hours.  Each golfer will have their own cart so they can go as quickly as possible.  Aim high—do you think you can play 200?

Do I have to be a good golfer?
No, but you need to be able to swing the club.  A little stamina will go further in this event rather than pure talent.

What’s in it for me?
Golf...golf...and more golf...is there anything more to life?  Just for fun, we’ll throw in giveaways, prizes, lots of food and more!  You’ll also be raising money to fund research for finding a cure for NBIA and continuing to support Brittany.  Not to mention, you’ll win bragging rights to the 100-hole day!

How is the Marathon run?
Registration begins at 7:00 am with a continental breakfast to get you started.  You will be paired with one other person (of your choice or we’ll match partners).  Each golfer has their own private cart.  Once everyone is at his/her assigned hole, the marathon will begin with a shotgun start at 7:30 am.  You may tee off at the same time, the farthest one out doesn’t necessarily hit first, you don’t spend time lining up putts, etc.  Just keep going!  The goal is to safely play as many holes as you can in the shortest amount of time.  Some will play faster than others, and we encourage those people to play through – courteously.

How am I going to raise $1,000 in pledges?
You can do it!  It’s just 10 people pledging $1.00 per hole, 20 people pledging .50 cents a hole, etc.  Pledges can be from friends,
family, church, work, etc.  See the list on your commitment form for more ideas.

Use the “Pledge Letter” when you are asking for pledges by mail and in person.  Make copies of the “Pledge Letter” or contact the organizers for additional copies.  Have your sponsors return the bottom portion to YOU so that you can track all monies raised.

Sponsors will send the bottom portion of the Pledge Letter back to You and NOT to the Marathon Organizers. You then transfer all the information from the Pledge Letter  to the Sponsor/Pledge Form in the back of this packet.  You will turn in the completed Sponsor/Pledge Form on the day of the Marathon.

Remember to mention that all money is being raised for NBIA research!

What if people would rather pledge a flat rate?
Terrific!  Have them fill out the sponsor form and collect the donation with the form.  Record all flat pledges on your Sponsor/Pledge Form.   Keep in mind that you are working towards your personal goal of $1,000.  All sponsorships and donations are tax deductible.

What is a Hole Sponsor?
As a golfer you can contact any business or individual to sponsor a hole—a donation that includes a customized professional sign showing the company name by the hole.  Hole sponsorships are $250 and puts you even closer to your personal goal of $1,000.  All hole sponsorships are due to event organizers by September 15th for sign printing.  All sponsorships and donations are tax deductible.

Do I have to collect the money?
You collect the money for flat pledges/donations.  We collect the money for pledges (example: $1 per hole).  We will contact your sponsors via mail after the marathon to let them know how well you did and say thanks for helping fund research to help Brittany and all the people with NBIA disorders.    It is important that you bring your COMPLETED Sponsor/Pledge Form to the marathon so that we have the contact information for your sponsors.  You will not be able to play until the form is complete.

If I don’t raise $1000 can I still play?
Yes!  The goal for the event is $30,000.  If each of the 30 golfers has at least $1,000 in sponsorships, we meet our goal.  We ask that you do your very best in getting as many sponsors as possible.
